Truck Production

Due to Hurricane Florence affecting the East Coast the Super Production Day for B Crew scheduled for September 15^th has been moved to September 22^nd.  This was caused by concern that the plant would not be able to receive parts coming from the East Coast.  A Crew still has a super production day scheduled for September 30th and B Crew is planning on running October 6^th.  If the schedule changes again we will keep you informed.

Transit Production

The Transit system will change back to a 5X10 schedule for the week of September 24^th.  The company has told us that they are behind about 360 units and this week will be used to make those units up.  In Volume One of the National Agreement on page 343 it discusses how to make up lost production on a 4X10 pattern.  The two down weeks are still on for late October at this time.  We expect the Transit System to have several changes before going back to regular overtime and we will keep you informed as more changes occur. 

Stamping Plant Expansion

We have been told that KCAP will be adding on to the Stamping plant with the addition of another press, an additional MSC Center, and a 40,000 square foot warehouse for MP&L. This is very good news for our assembly plant and will help bring additional jobs to KCAP.  Currently construction is already underway for the MP&L phase.  Over the next few months we will provide additional updates as to the progress.

Manpower

Local 249 Leadership has continued to raise concerns over the amount of open jobs inside the plant. In an effort by the company to avoid hiring some of the temporary workers to full time we have been told one plan could be to reduce the percentage of utility and place them on the open jobs. The plan calls for only 12% utility in the Stamping Plant, Paint Shops, Body Shops and Pre-Delivery Departments. In Trim, Chassis, and MP&L Departments there will only be an allotment of 15% utility.  If the company follows through with this plan some of the current utility will be reduced back to their previous classification, and the rest of the utility could be moved to a different shift.

Transit Rebalance

The Transit System rebalance will begin on Thursday, September 20^th and the four month period will end on Sunday, January 20^th.  This a very difficult and continuous period for the membership.  The local leadership team is committed to addressing all work standards concerns and asks that all members maintain the highest level of commitment to Quality and Safety.  If you have any questions on rebalance we ask you to notify your District Committeeman. 

Women’s Awareness Training

The UAW Local 249 Women’s Committee is hosting a Women’s Awareness training class for the membership. This class will be taught by a licenses psychologist on September 28^th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.  The class is free, however they are asking for donations of New Blankets, Pillows, Towels, Twin Sheets and Washcloths.  These items will be donated to a local women’s shelter.

BBQ Cook-off

On September 30^th the UAW Local 249 Recreation Committee is hosting a BBQ Competition at the Union Hall.  It is $50.00 to cook and the check in is at 3:00 am.  The contestants must cook pulled pork and chicken (dark and light meat will be judged.)  There will also be a Cornhole tournament going on.

The deadline for this competition is September 25^th at 5:00pm.

3^rd Annual UAW/Ford Charity Golf Outing

On Saturday, October 13^th we will be holding our annual Charity Golf Outing at Paradise Point Golf Course in Smithville, MO.  There are a few spots still available, the deadline is on October 9^th however the spots are almost gone.  The Four Man Scramble event is $300.00 per team, and includes green fee, cart, and range and BBQ dinner after the event.  There will be Prize money, and raffle items available along with silent auction items. 

Solidarity Concert

The UAW Local 249 Motorcycle Committee is hosting another Solidarity Concert on October 20^th.  There will be live performances by Pompous Jack, 7 Mile Ford and Nic Danger.  The Union Label Committee will be selling raffle tickets to a lot of great prizes at this event.  There will also be BBQ sold by the Rub and Beverages available.  The food will be cash only.  We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Mouse Racing

The UAW Local 249 Community Services Committee is hosting an exciting night of mouse racing on October 27^th at VFW Post 5606.  Located at 5406 NE Oak Ridge Rd.  The tickets are $10.00 per person and includes a spaghetti dinner and non-alcoholic beverages.  Other drink options are available through the VFW.

Limo/Party Bus Raffle

The UAW Local 249 Women’s Committee is currently selling raffle tickets for a free two hour limousine, or party bus ride. The tickets are $10.00 each and the winner will be drawn at the October 21^st Union Meeting.  This will help raise money for the events that they host throughout the year.

Halloween Party

The UAW Local 249 Women’s Committee will be hosting their annual Halloween Party on October 31^st!  This is a free and safe alternative to trick or treating and will be located at the Union Hall from 6:00-9:00 PM.
